What is Facetivus?

What the…?
Facetivus is an online charity drive designed to culminate on the annual day of Festivus 2011 (Dec. 23). It’s going to be an online “airing of grievances” coordinated through Facebook and other social media outlets.
So where’s the charity come in?
We’re going to sell some products, run some drives, and give people the opportunity to express their grievances anonymously. There’ll be a blog, and we’ll be all over Twitter and Facebook and some other avenues. We’re still working out the details, but trust me, it’ll be fun.
What charity?
Well, I don’t know yet. I’m going to take ideas from folks and then probably have a vote. I like kids and puppies and helping sick folks and all that good stuff, but ideally I’d like to find a charity that is as fun and unique as I like to think this idea is. But ultimately, the best cause should win.
Didn’t you basically steal this idea from Seinfeld?
Totally. Please don’t sue me, Sony. I have a PS3. I swear I’ll eBay it if you do.
Isn’t this kind of mean-spirited?
I hope not. It’s not intended to be that way. I envision it more as a tongue-in-cheek way to blow off a little steam, have some chuckles, and raise some money and awareness for a good cause. It’ll be what you guys make of it, ultimately, but if I have my way, no one really gets hurt. That’s not my nature, but I’ll certainly make good-natured fun of just about anything.
Are you making any money off of this?
I don’t intend to, no. All proceeds will go to charity, no matter what avenues we choose to make that happen. The only money I’ll take from the kitty would be for bandwidth or promotion costs. And as long as that’s reasonable, I’ll probably just eat it myself. Should this thing take off (and let’s all hope it does) then bandwidth might get pricy. I’ll be entirely transparent about that kind of thing, though.
Who are you guys anyway?
Just a couple of dudes with a fun idea. You can read about us here. But that’s enough about us. Who are you guys?
Alright. Sounds fun. How can we help?
Glad you pseudo-asked. Facetivus 2011 is still a year way, but we’re making plans now. We are collecting donations now, but I don’t expect you guys to give much money since we haven’t even officially picked a cause. We’d love to have volunteers to help us write content, program things, design, or just give us ideas. If that’s your thing, drop us a line. I’d love to talk to you and see how you can help. The more the merrier.
Beyond that, for now, we’d love if you’d help spread the word, or just keep in touch. Follow us on Twitter, become a fan on Facebook, sign up for our mailing list. We’ve also got sharing functions all over this thing, so helping to spread the word would be awesome. Do your thing, social media. Do it! You know you want to.
How much do you hope to raise?
A million dollars.
Seriously?
Yeah, I know. That won’t happen. Let’s start small. Let’s say $1000 dollars, though I think that’s WAAAAAAY undershooting what we can do here. (My personal secret goal is $10,000, but I’ll NEVER admit to that publicly).
